Eleven Schools Temporarily Transitioning to Remote Learning

Eleven Huntsville City Schools will temporarily transition to remote learning on Thursday, Jan. 20 and Friday, Jan. 21. Students will return to campus on Monday, Jan. 24.  The district’s Preventative Measures Team worked collaboratively with the school’s leadership team to assess several factors before making the decision to transition to remote learning, including the number of positive COVID-19 cases and/or staffing availability.  For additional details, including a complete list of the schools affected, click the More Information button below.

Recommendation: 

MOTION MADE BY MS. PAM HILL:

I would like to make a motion that the board extend the application period for the Superintendent Search to Friday, August 24, 2018 and advertise the opening nationally. The motion was seconded by Ms. Watkins. 

VOTE: Ms. Hill and Ms. Watkins - yes. Mr. McGinnis, Ms. Wilder and Ms. Ferrell voted no. The motion failed by a 3-2 vote.

There was a discussion to determine the next steps in the process.

Ms. Hill moved that the Board not hold interviews and name Christie Finley as Superintendent. The motion was seconded by Mr. McGinnis.

VOTE: Ms. Ferrell, Ms. Watkins, Ms. Wilder and Mr. McGinnis voted yes, Ms. Hill voted no. The motion passed by a 4-1 vote.
