Session Descriptions:

  • Grade Level Opportunities (6th-12th): Counselors will provide a brief overview of core classes, electives, extra-curricular opportunities, college and career readiness activities and tips for a successful year.  We want to help students and parents plan with a PURPOSE!
  • AP/Honors Courses: This session reveals the types of advanced courses offered to middle and high school students in Huntsville City Schools, as well as the ways in which the Honors/AP program prepares students for college level curricula.
  • Magnets - What's the Attraction: What is a magnet program?  Come find out and hear about the seven magnet programs that Huntsville City Schools offers to students who live in the district.  We offer high interest programs for students from Pre-K to 12th grade.
  • Learn About the College Academy: Come explore the College Academy, a magnet program through which students earn up to 60 hours of college credit from UAH while earning their high school diploma.
  • GPA Calculation: In this session, parents and students will learn to calculate their GPAs and understand the differences between weighted and unweighted GPAs.  We will also explain what this means for college admissions and scholarships.
  • Scholarships & Financial Aid: In this session, parents and students will learn about the process of applying for scholarships and financial aid.  we will discuss online tools and resources along with a general timeline.
  • Finding the Right Career Path: This session will cover the various Career and Technical Academies of Huntsville City Schools.  Career Academies provide an opportunity for students to explore various career options, gain the relevant knowledge and skills to get a jump start on their future success.  Come and find your pathway to success!
  • ACT & SAT: Confused about which test to take?  In this session, we will discuss the differences between the tests, and explain how scores are used for admissions and scholarship purposes.  We will also talk about test prep opportunities to help students obtain their best score.
  • Virtual School: In this session, parents and students will learn about our much-anticipated Virtual School options!  Students in grades 6-12 will be able to take advantage of this opportunity starting Fall 2018.
