According to the U.S. Department of Education’s “Use of Technology in Teaching and Learning” website:

“Technology ushers in fundamental structural changes that can be integral to achieving significant improvements in productivity. Used to support both teaching and learning, technology infuses classrooms with digital learning tools, such as computers and hand held devices; expands course offerings, experiences, and learning materials; supports learning 24 hours a day, 7 days a week; builds 21st century skills; increases student engagement and motivation; and accelerates learning.”

In the fall of 2013, Huntsville City Schools made the move to an all-digital learning environment with 1:1 Windows laptops for all students grades 3-12 and iPads in Pre-K through 2nd grade. A wireless network provides all students at every school reliable and equitable access of digital material and resources. The shift has created educational opportunities that have impacted students in every grade. Examples of positive impacts include gains in student proficiency as measured by state and national assessments and increased graduation rates.

Digital Learning includes areas in the Information Technology (IT) Department with responsibilities including IT Networking, End-User Device Management, IT Help Desk support, and the Educational Technology Department.
