Academy for Academics and Arts

The Academy for Academics and Arts opened in 1984, and is Huntsville City School's first magnet school. In the fall of 2015, the Academy moved into its brand new location in the completely renovated and redesigned Edward White Middle School building. A state-of-the-art theatre complex was added and the first performance was held in the Spring of 2016.

Mission Statement

Immerse students in a creative and fine arts integrated curriculum as Huntsville's premiere PreK-8 arts school.

Unique Program Components

  • Daily exposure to art disciplines in grades PreK-5
  • Selection of an arts concentration or continued exploration in grades 6-8
  • Access to state-of-the-art facilities and equipment
  • Shared master artists, guest artists, and specialized faculty with Lee High School

Requirements to Apply

1.       Interested students from throughout the Huntsville City School system may submit an online application during the designated application window (Oct. 3 - Nov. 4).

2.       In grades P-5, a lottery system is used to award seats. Once offered a magnet slot and enrolled, students are not required to reapply (including into the middle school).

3.       In addition to the online application, students new to AAA in grades 6-8 must complete an audition. Applicants may audition in one of six areas: creative writing, vocal music, orchestral strings, drama, dance, or visual art. A committee will judge holistically the interest, experience, and commitment to the magnet theme for each new applicant in grades six through eight.
