Academy for Gifted and Talented at Williams P-8

 The Academy for Gifted and Talented at Williams P8 provides a new and exciting opportunity for gifted and talented students. Students offered admission to this program will experience the benefits of attending a dedicated gifted education program designed to be challenging and developmentally appropriate for the very important middle grade years. AGT will allow gifted students to engage in cross-curricular studies with levels of depth and complexity appropriate for exceptional learners. Students will receive services in a safe and developmentally appropriate environment, and courses will be taught by highly qualified, gifted certified teachers who are dedicated to creating a valuable experience for students.

Requirements to Apply:

  • Rising 6th or 7th Grader (2017-2018 School Year)
  • Reside within the city limits of Huntsville (if moving to Huntsville prior to the enrollment period, two (2) proofs of residence are required)
  • Huntsville City Schools or Alabama Gifted identification
  • Demonstrate mastery of standards in the core subject areas (English, math, science, and social studies)
  • ACT Aspire scores, a writing sample, one (1) recommendation from GATE specialist and one (1) recommendation from either Math or ELA teacher.  

Steps in the AGT Application Process (Priority window: Jan. - Feb. 2017)

  1. Parents & students complete the online (preferred) or paper application.
  2. Attend the AGT Open House at Williams P8
  3. Attend a Shadow Day at the AGT.  
  4. Once the online application is submitted, the Office of Magnet Programs will contact the GATE and ELA or MATH teacher identified in the application to complete an online recomendation. Parents may also use the recomendation forms to obtain teacher input. 
  5. The Office of Magnet Programs will obtain academic records through I-Now.
  6. Students from Out of State, Private or Homeschool must submit: most recent Report Card and/or Academic Transcripts and Standardized Test scores by the end of the Priority Window.
  7. At the end of the Priority Window (Feb. 28), all students with completed applications will be invited to submit an essay completed on-site. 
  8. A cohort of 50-60 students and alternates will be selected by May 1, 2017.

  • Supports needs of gifted learners through integrated curriculum and problem-based projects in addition to acceleration, compacting, extended learning opportunities, field studies, mentorships, and inquiry based units of study built around student interest and strengths
  • Provides a magnet pathway to New Century Technology High School
