District Hosts Emergency Response Exercise

Huntsville City Schools (HCS) conducted an Emergency Response Exercise (ERE) at Huntsville High School and Milton Frank Stadium on Monday, July 11, 2022.  The purpose of the event was to promote campus safety by walking through internal protocols related to evacuation (exiting the building) at Huntsville High School and reunification (connecting parents/guardians with students) at Milton Frank Stadium.

"We want to increase confidence in our Emergency Operation Plan, and we want to validate the efficacy of all of our communications platforms, our logistics infrastructure, and the way that we have outlined our process," said Director of Operations Dr. Jeffrey Wilson, adding that "everything we're doing here today is ensuring [...] the safety of our students and our staff and faculty in an emergency situation."

A variety of HCS district and school staff, including principals and even several board members, participated in the exercise along with the assistance of the Huntsville Police Department.  A number of faculty and staff members played the roles of students and parents/guardians during the drill.  No actual students participated.

The faculty and staff members exited the high school, loaded on buses, disembarked at Milton Frank Stadium, and then were reunited with the other faculty and staff members who were assigned as their parents/guardians.
