GSES Displays Wax Museum of "Bottle Biographies" for Black History Month

Third-grade students at Goldsmith Schiffman Elementary put together a wax museum exhibit highlighting important African Americans in history.  The characters in the exhibit were created using plastic bottles.  These “bottle biographies” were researched and assembled by each student.  With every third-grader participating, over 150 different African Americans were represented.  Brittany Rankins, a third-grade teacher at Goldsmith, explained that having so many different figures included allows us to talk about more than just the well-known people who have influenced society.  She says that it also lets us “talk about the unsung heroes” that often don’t get much attention, even during Black History Month.

As the school toured the wax museum, each bottle biography was explained and presented by the student that researched and created it.  The exhibit was displayed in the third-grade hallway, with both a morning and afternoon session allowing more time to view the museum.
