NCTHS Receives Resolution from State Board of Education

Gov. Kay Ivey and the Alabama State Board of Education passed a resolution recognizing New Century Technology High School (NCTHS) in Huntsville City Schools (HCS) as a 2020 National Blue Ribbon School.

The board approved the resolution during Thursday’s state school board meeting.

“I want to thank Gov. Kay Ivey, Dr. Eric Mackey, and the state board for taking the opportunity to celebrate us,” NCTHS Principal Sheila Roby said. “It was an honor to be nominated, and we are thrilled to receive the honor of being a National Blue Ribbon School.”

The National Blue Ribbon Schools Program recognizes schools based on their overall academic excellence or their progress in closing achievement gaps. New Century is among only five schools across the state who received this prestigious recognition in 2020.

“It is our goal to encourage our students to enter the STEM field and become leaders in their field,” Roby said. “We have strong support from both our district and community, which creates opportunities for our students.”

Dr. Wayne Reynolds, state school board member who represents district eight, noted the announcement of the U.S. Space Command coming to Huntsville in offering the resolution.
