Providence Elementary International Baccalaureate Ceremony

School staff, students and district officials, will unveil the new sign in the lobby to denote the achievement of Providence Elementary as one of the newest I.B. schools in the state.  Providence Elementary will be only the 7th school in Alabama to have an I.B. in the Primary Years.  In Huntsville City Schools, Columbia High and the Academy for Science and Foreign Language also have an International Baccalaureate program.

The mission of the International Baccalaureate (IB) is to create a better world through education.  The organization works with schools, governments, and world organizations to develop challenging programs of international education and rigorous assessment.  The goal is to encourage students from across the globe to become active, compassionate and lifelong learners.  Worldwide, there are over 4000 schools that have an I.B. program.  The process to earn the status of an International Baccalaureate school usually takes two to three years to achieve.
