Teacher Spotlight: Kristin Gipner
Congratulations to Kristin Gipner of Farley Elementary, selected as this week’s Teacher Spotlight!
Mrs. Gipner is originally from Palatine, Illinois - a suburb of Chicago. She moved to the south at the age of eight and has lived here since. She attended the University of Alabama, where she met her husband. Together they moved to Huntsville in 2011, following their graduations. This is her fifth year teaching at Farley Elementary and second year teaching third grade math.
Mrs. Gipner tries to differentiate and uses lots of small group and “centers” instruction to keep the students engaged. She also says that she uses a good deal of technology and software in the classroom. She also incorporates a lot of reading practice in her class. According to Farley Elementary Principal Towana Smith, “she understands the importance of reading and writing, and how it fits into her content area.” Mrs. Gipner says that she makes sure to work on reading because “reading is in every subject.”
Each week, ETV will showcase an outstanding Huntsville City Schools educator as a feature in the “Teacher Spotlight.”
