Teacher Spotlight: Marcae Thompson
Congratulations to Marcae Thompson of Rolling Hills Elementary School, selected as this week’s Teacher Spotlight!
Ms. Thompson is a native of Doylestown, Pennsylvania and moved to Huntsville, Alabama in 2013. She attended East Carolina University and was a member of Teach For America, a nonprofit organization whose goal is to "grow and strengthen the movement for educational equity and excellence." She has taught first and fourth grade at Rolling Hills Elementary School since 2013. Both in and out of the classroom, Ms. Thompson is always a team player and has a positive effect on those around her. She is hands-on and says she likes to incorporate things the students enjoy into her lessons to keep them engaged.
She truly believes that all students can and will learn at high levels regardless of their race, ethnicity, background, or other circumstances. Ms. Thompson achieves this by holding high expectations for all students, and she shows that building relationships is the key to every child's success in the classroom. According to Denine Matthews, Principal at Rolling Hills Elementary, "Ms. Thompson is one of my star teachers." She continues, saying "whenever I walk into the classroom, I find the students engaged." According to Lyriq Amber, one of Ms. Thompson's first grade students, she is "the best teacher I've had all year."
Each week, ETV will showcase an outstanding Huntsville City Schools educator as a feature in the “Teacher Spotlight." Highlighted recipients receive gifts from SchoolCraft and Five Guys.
