Teacher Spotlight: Ms. Porshe' Chapman
Congratulations to Ms. Porshe' Chapman of Lakewood Elementary School, selected as this week’s Teacher Spotlight!
Ms. Porshe' Chapman was born and raised in Chicago, IL, but recently relocated to Huntsville. She earned her degree in early childhood education from Alabama A&M University. She is currently serving her first year in Huntsville City Schools, but brings with her over five years of experience teaching in both Fort Myers, FL and Chicago, IL. She is currently teaching both 2nd and 3rd grades, and she says she is excited to be a part of the Lakewood family and to help ensure a successful school year. When she isn't inspiring the young minds of our future, she enjoys traveling, shopping, and spending time with her family.
"She's strict, tough, but also gentle," says Lakewood Elementary Principal Fredrick Barnes. He adds that Ms. Chapman lets the students know that she always wants the best for them, and so she sets very high standards for them to follow. Ms. Chapman says, "you have to start with a daily routine, because a lot of kids don't like change." She also mentions that she tries to make the routine fun, and gives the students a lot of praise to let them know she cares. De'Erin Thompson, one of Ms. Chapman's second grade students, says "she cares about us, she loves us, and she wants us to try our best." Ms. Chapman tells her students, "I'm building you for today, but tomorrow is the future."
Ms. Chapman continues to demonstrate a clear passion to ensure that her students will be successful - both now and in the future.
