Huntsville City Schools is pleased to announce a unique opportunity for students to earn credits during the month of June. Many times, students have a difficult time scheduling Driver's Ed and/or Health during the school year. While driver's ed is not required, health is a requirement for graduation. These courses will be available June 5th through July 1st. Driver's Ed will be offered in two sessions (June 5-17 and June 21-30). All courses, with the exception of Driver's Ed, will be conducted online in a virtual classroom environment. Once the student has completed the course, they are done. Summer School report cards will be mailed to the high school receiving credit for completion no later than Monday, July 10, 2023.
Registration
Credit Enhancement registration will open online on April 17, 2023 and will close May 12, 2023. Credit Recovery registration will be done onsite at Lee High School (Cafeteria which is located at the back of the school) May 31-June 2, 2023. Late Registration will be held June 5 - 9, 2023 from 8:00am - 12:00pm noon at Lee High School (Lecture Hall which is located at the front of the building). Please see the schedule below. Students can only register for a maximum of two courses. Priority will be given to current HCS students.
- Credit Enhancement is for students who need to take Health, Driver's Education, and/or Career Preparedness for initial credit and will register using the Summer Credit Enhancement Sign-Up Form
- Credit Enhancement Courses are for rising 10th, 11th, and 12th grade students. No rising 9th grade students are allowed to enroll in these courses.
- Enrollment in Driver's Ed courses will be limited to a first-come first-serve basis
- The sign-up form will open Monday, April 17, 2023 between 8AM-9AM
- Late Registration: June 5 - 9, 2023 from 8:00am - 12:00pm (noon) at Lee High School Lecture Hall
- Credit Recovery registration will be done onsite only at Lee High School (Cafeteria which is located at the back of the school):
- May 31, 2023 from 8:00am - 4:00pm: Rising 10th & 11th graders
- June 1, 2023, from 8:00am - 4:00pm: Rising 12th graders & middle school students
- June 2, 2023 from 8:00am - 12:00pm (noon): Non-HCS students/anyone else that still needs to register
- Late Registration: June 5 - 9, 2023 from 8:00am - 12:00pm (noon) at Lee High School Lecture Hall
Registration Fees
- A $50 registration fee is required of all students at the time of registration to reserve a seat. Tuition and registration fee for both credit enhancement and credit recovery course(s) must be paid in full no later than Friday, June 2, 2023
- All Summer School courses will have a tuition fee of $200 in addition to the above mentioned registration fee ($250 total) for all HCS and Non-HCS students
- A second course will be an additional $150
- Tuition and fees must be paid no later than Friday, June 2, 2023
- HCS students can pay the bookkeeper at their High School or use the My School Fees link on the left side of their high school website
- Non-HCS students can pay at Apollo Academy on Fridays between 9AM-11AM via Antoinette Parker, Secondary Programs at 256-213-1989
- Priority will be given to current HCS students
- No refunds will be issued once classes have begun
Transportation
Parent(s) or legal Guardian(s) must provide transportation for students enrolled in Driver's Ed (Health & Career Prep are virtual). All credit recovery courses will be done in-person at Lee High School Monday-Friday from 8:30am-12:30pm. HCS will provide transportation for those students.
Attendance Requirements
- Regular school policy regarding student absences does NOT apply to Summer School.
- All students are required to attend the first 5 days of classes for Driver's Education
Student Discipline
- The Huntsville City Board of Education requires that all students conduct themselves in a manner that facilitates the educational process. Disciplinary action will be administered according to the district's Behavioral Learning Guide.
Report Card Dates
- Middle school & high school report cards will be issued no later than July 10, 2023.
