I am originally from around the Dallas/Fort Worth area in Texas and was an arts kid throughout middle and high school (band, theater, and creative writing). One of the big things I missed when I moved to Alabama 11 years ago was strong arts programs (one of the many reasons I am excited about teaching at AAA). My husband (also a teacher) and I currently live in Cullman but are looking forward to moving to Huntsville this year.
Bachelor of Fine Art in Telecommunications (Media Arts) - Oklahoma Baptist University - 2007
Masters in English Education - University of Alabama - 2012
Class A (Masters level) certification for English Language Arts 6-12.
I first discovered my love of teaching while teaching underclassmen in the Media Arts program how to work the equipment and by preparing a crew of almost entirely freshmen for our campus newscast and even election night coverage. After working some office jobs, I decided that I would pursue my love of teaching by going to UAB to get my certification. After graduating in 2012, I taught English Language Arts for 9-12th grade as well as Creative Writing and Journalism at the Islamic Academy of Alabama, where I also served as Yearbook Coordinator and Scholastic Book Fair Chairperson. I then taught one year of 7th grade English Language Arts at Arab Junior High and the next year at Jasper Junior High School. I am quite excited about joining the great team of teachers at AAA and am already blown away by the creativity of the students.
