Gary R. Leopold

My hometown is Cincinnati, Ohio but I have lived in Huntsville since 1992. I was commissioned a Second Lieutenant in the Regular Army upon graduation from college. During twenty years in the Army, I served in a variety of troop and staff assignments in the United States and the Federal Republic of Germany, to include extended tours of temporary duty in Morocco and the Netherlands, the last being during Operation Desert Shield/Storm. As Assistant Professor of Military Science at the University of Wisconsin in Stevens Point, I taught combat operations and intelligence, and military law. During my last tour in Germany I taught United States History for both City Colleges of Chicago and the University of Maryland in addition to my military duties. I have also served as adjunct faculty for Andrew Jackson University, teaching Western Civilization. I have been teaching Social Studies at the Academy for Academics and Arts since 1995. I coach the Academic Team and am the Academy's webmaster. My wife Tina and I have a daughter, Sarah Taggart, who is a local attorney, two dogs and a cat. My hobbies include running, reading, playing the organ, shooting, and collecting fountain pens.
