Earth Day Celebration
On April 22, 2019, Earth Day, the staff, parents, students and Alabama Wildlife Association team spent the day improving and revising our Outdoor Classroom. With great excitement parents volunteered to organize and guide students in creating several new garden areas including, a Frog Bog, Sensory Garden, new trees, raised beds, and a Song Bird Garden. In addition to putting in new areas, the entire Courtyard was weeded, pruned, planted with new plants, refreshed the gravel walk, labeled, and cleaned up. Each student at ASFL was given the opportunity to work outside on this project with the intention of creating greater pride, ownership, and empowerment in their school.
Everyone worked very hard and we are truly impressed with the commitment to this improvement project. Currently we have a little more to finish the details but have already noticed an increase in the use of the Courtyard with all the improvements made through this project. It is with loving hearts we thank our volunteers, donors, staff and students.
