Academy for Academics and Arts
Welcome to the 2016-2017 School Year at the Academy For Academics and Arts!
The Academy for Academics and Arts opened as the first magnet school in Huntsville in 1984. Our emphasis on the Arts sets the Academy apart from other public schools in the Huntsville district. In the magnet program, there are three or four classes of each grade level from kindergarten to eighth grade. All children in grades K-5 have the opportunity to explore the arts weekly by attending music, visual arts, and dance. Students in second grade are introduced to Strings and may continue Strings throughout their journey at the Academy if they choose. Students also receive instruction with the drama teacher in mini courses embedded within the curriculum. The elementary teachers also utilize the arts throughout the day in the natural setting of the classroom to enhance all academic subjects
Middle school students are given opportunities to delve deeper into the arts. Students audition for choral groups, performing groups, strings, visual arts, technical theatre, and dance. Middle school students also audition for parts in the school’s annual theatre production.
The Academy for Academics and Arts is well known for its open door policy. All who enter its doors are welcome. This warm and inviting climate continues to grow due to all involved students, faculty and staff, parents, and community stakeholders.
