Principal's Weekly Message for March 12th
We need your help at school! Food, candy, gum, and drinks have become an ongoing problem in our classrooms. Please help us by doing an extra backpack check to make sure your child is not bringing these items to school to eat/drink during class or in the halls. Most troublesome has been gum-we are seeing students chew it and when asked to spit it out they do but just put another piece right back in their mouth. Unfortunately, we are finding chewed gum in chairs, water fountains, and on the floors throughout the building. Sunflower seeds and large bags of chips are also an area of concern. The sunflower seeds are leaving a mess as well-we even found where students had been eating them in the bathroom last week. When packing your child's lunch, they only need enough chips for themselves. We do not encourage sharing food and the large bags of chips often end up out in the hallways and in class where students should not be eating. We do encourage students to drink water throughout the day and have water fountains that accommodate refilling bottles. However, Powerade, Gatorade, coffee, soft drinks, etc are not permitted at school. When we see these items in classrooms and hallways, we will be collecting them and returning them to students at the end of the day. Thank you in advance for reviewing these rules with your child in order to help keep our school clean and pest free!
We've had another busy weekend with the Three Musketeers, all state choir students in Birmingham, and our first middle school group participating in the green power race.
I hope you have marked your calendar for next weekend for our first annual art show. The Elementary Art Show will be on Sunday, March 18th from 3:30pm until 5:30pm. You can purchase your child’s framed art for $25.00 – the cost of the frame. You may also purchase additional color reproductions of your child’s work for $25.00, either at the store or online from the PTA website. Cash, checks or credit cards are accepted. If you cannot attend the show, you may prepay by sending a check to your child’s homeroom teacher made payable to AAA PTA. A percentage of the sale will go directly to the school
The Middle School Art Show will be on Sunday, March 18th from 5:30pm to 7:30pm. All Middle School art students will submit work, but only 45 students’ work will be selected for display. If you are interested in volunteering for this event, you may go to Signup Genius to volunteer.
