Weekly update from Mr. Bonner

Dear AAA Families,

Through the end of February, your child, or children, will be participating in a “Student Led Conference”.  This process serves many purposes.  First, it gives you the opportunity to gauge your child’s progress in academics and art.  Secondly, this provides students with an activity requiring that they take responsibility for their learning.  The “Student Led Conference” has been shown to improve student achievement because it forces them to look beyond their learning as simply completing assignments proficiently.  The idea behind this conference is that students can think about how they learn what they learn.  This gives students a chance to look at goals, where they should be in relationship to the subjects discussed, and where they need to be in the upcoming months. Students will be asked to share their learning with you because talking about learning improves thinking about content. The artistic component requires that students develop creative vision to carry out their art through a process of describing their thinking and how to express their ideas.  Teachers have begun reaching out to parents and will continue to do so over the following weeks.  This is a process I have participated in before, and the energy and depth of thought that comes out of this process has been proven to enhance student success. I look forward to continuing the learning journey with you and your child.
