Future City Competition
ASFL competed in the 2019 regional Future City Competition January 19th at the Space and Rocket Center. Future City is an engineering competition that uses the engineering design process to solve real-world problems. This year the goal was to create a futuristic, resilient power grid that can withstand and recover quickly from a natural disaster. The team had to design two solutions for their creation. The ASFL team placed first at the competition and won two special awards; Best Land Surveying Practices and Best Telecommunications and Power Systems. The team will travel to Washington DC to compete at the Nationals on February 15th, 2019.
Team members are Zion Tesfaye, Ann Metuge, Walden Wilder, Olivia Costley, and Thomas Sing. Teacher Angela Traylor and Engineer Mentor Ray Woodson sponsor the team. This is the 8th year in a row that the ASFL team has represented Alabama at the Nationals.
