January Updates

Welcome Back!

Dear Challenger Families,

I hope you had a wonderful break and celebrated being together with friends and family as much as possible. Last week was a bit unexpected with the weather and e learning days, and we appreciate your flexibility to complete lessons on line. Teachers have reported full classes and assignments completed.

Report cards were to go home on Friday, but you will see them on Monday, Jan. 10th. You will also have a STAR parent report for reading and math in first through fifth grade. Kindergarten will have only one report. After looking at the report cards and STAR reports, I see that collectively we are working hard and have made good progress this first semester. Please go over the reports with your child. They should be able to tell you where they did well and what they will do to strengthen any areas that are of concern.

We will begin Dibels reading assessments for kindergarten through third grade this week. This benchmark and the STAR reading test help us address any reading deficiencies quickly. Teachers will provide you with your Dibels benchmark results by the end of the month.

As we enter this 2nd semester of school, we will be reviewing school rules and expectations as we settle in. We will continue our strong push for achievement and look forward to seeing the sparkle in our students' eyes every time they learn something new!

Aim High!
Dr. Wallace

Please make sure your child has a mask for school. We wear masks throughout the school day and use social distancing whenever possible. Thank You Officer Coleman and Mr. Walter

We say thank you to our awesome school resource personnel. Officer Coleman, SRO and Mr. Walter, Huntsville City Schools security officer, are an important part of our team. While we share them with Challenger Middle school, we appreciate everything they do for us. Our students look forward to seeing them in classrooms and the hallways, and always have a smile to send their way.
