November News from Dr. Wallace
Dear Challenger Families,
I hope you are enjoying our beautiful fall weather. This weekend has been gorgeous. To those of you who joined us Friday night for the Challenger Challenge Picnic in the Parking Lot and Slime Fest – THANK YOU! It was such a fun night, and so good to see so many HVA students who I don’t get to see on a daily basis. Everyone, please give yourselves a big pat on the back for all the work you did on our behalf. Because of you, we raised over $17,700 for projects and improvements at Challenger. We will be using the funds for more reading resources, updating the murals in the building, replacing the marquee out front, purchasing refrigerators for teacher work rooms and funding all the PTA programs for the year. Hats off to our awesome PTA volunteers, and especially our Fundraising Chair Michelle Salahi, for your daily attention to goal. We couldn’t do it without you!
Thank you to those of you who have completed and returned the green Federal card that was sent home on October 27th. The information is important for additional funds for the school district and makes a huge impact.
The window to enroll or reenroll in HVA for the second semester is open until Nov. 18th. If you are currently in HVA and want to continue, you will need to reenroll. If you are not in the program but would like to enroll for the second half of the year, please sign up. Use the HVA page on the HCS district website. For the second semester, the learning platform will be Fuel K12 Education. It looks like a great platform and teachers are getting trained on it now. Please be aware that second semester teachers may change depending on the number of enrollments in the program.
E Learning days are set for Nov. 23rd & 24th. All students will be learning from home on these days. Lessons and assignments will be uploaded into Schoology. Your teacher will provide you with more information as we get closer to Thanksgiving. Progress reports will also be sent home on Nov. 20th. I look forward to stronger grades for everyone since we’re all getting the hang of this now!
The health and safety of our students and faculty remain at an all time high. Please help us by making sure your child has a clean mask every morning (and an extra in a Ziploc bag in the backpack). Please do not send your child to school with a fever or if someone in your family has a major Covid symptoms such as fever or new cough. All children need a reusable water bottle sine the water fountains are turned off except for the bottle fillers. We continue to practice washing hands, keeping our distance and do not share supplies and other materials. Any reinforcement of these practices from families is appreciated as we head into the colder months.
We are thankful for your continued support efforts to help us keep all students learning, safe and healthy as we head into the final weeks of 2020. I hope you all have a wonderful Thanksgiving later this month. I know we all deserve this one!
