Cyber Security Teams

The Cyber Security Teams of Challenger Middle school provide students taking the Introduction to Cyber Security course, the opportunity to practice what they are learning in class. The students are divided into 5 person teams and compete in the National Youth Cyber Education program called Cyber Patriot sponsored by the Air Force Association. Additonal teams or open slots are also also filled with students in 6th and 7th grades based on available space after class students have their spots.  A teacher may only have 5 teams thus a total of 25 may participate.

How to Join / Membership Requirements:
Students are placed on teams when they are enrolled in the Introduction to Cyber Security course in the 8th grade, as a part of their course work. Since a teacher is allowed only 5 teams of 5 by the AFA, other teams or slots with 7th and 6th graders are formed as "club" teams to provide a basic introduction to additional students. These student will use this as an opportunity to explore taking this course the next year; however, students are not required to have this club experience to be accepted in the 8th grade course.
Other Info:
Our Cyber Security teams have placed in the top 3 in the state since we began competing in 2014-2015 season.

Most of our teams advance to National Semi-finals based on their full season performance and we usually have a top team finish in the top 10 - 11% in the nation which is now out of nearly 1000 middle schools in the US and at military bases abroad.
