Cyber Security Teams

The Cyber Security Teams of Challenger Middle school provide students taking the Introduction to Cyber Security course, the opportunity to practice what they are learning in class. The students are divided into 4 person teams and compete in the National Youth Cyber Education program called Cyber Patriot sponsored by the Air Force Association.

How to Join / Membership Requirements:
Students are placed on teams when they are enrolled in the Introduction to Cyber Security course in the 8th grade, as a part of their course work. A teacher is allowed only 5 teams of 5 by the AFA. Two additional teams of 7th graders are formed as "after school only" teams to provide a basic introduction to students who are recommended by their advanced math teachers as being able to handle the work. These student will use this as an opportunity to explore taking this course the next year; however, students are not required to have this 7th grade year to be accepted in the 8th grade course.
Other Info:
Our Cyber Security teams have placed at the top in the state both in 2015 and 2016 - the two years we have compete. We also had the 2nd place team in the state both years and the third place in 2015. All 5 teams both years have made it to national semifinals. Last spring 2016, our top team was in the top 11% in the nation of 300+ middle school teams in the US, Canada and US military stations around the world.

Huntsville City Schools has been named a CyberPatriot Center of Excellence by the Air Force Association.
