International Women Scientists/ STEM Visit to Columbia
Columbia High School had the opportunity to host nine (9) international women scientists from all over the world:
Paola Vargas (Teleport Engineer-Bolivia), Ines Prieto (Head of International/Institutional Affairs- France), Salam Doumiati (Research Assistance at the American University of Beirut-Lebanon), Ivonne Marisol Atencio, Ph.D.(Director of Phamacology Department, Faculty of Medicine University- Panama), Emilija Stojmenova, Ph.D (Assistant Professor, Faculty of Engineering at the University of Ljubljana-Slovenia), Kanokkon Sirithip, Ph.D (Lecturer, Department of Science and Technology at Roi-Et Rajabhat University- Thailand), Maryann Althani Alfalasi (Senior Specialist at the Dubai Electricity and Water Authority- United Arab Emirates), Lt. Col. Mutumwa Lilian Muwina (Lecturer and Researcher, Aeronautical Engineering Program at Copperbelt University-Zambia) and Novuyo Bobo, Ph.D. (ICT User Support and Training Manger at the National University of Science and Technology- Zimbabwe)!
The visit focused on STEM education. The scientists were able to visit the PLTW Biomedical Science and Engineering courses as well as interact with our IB Diploma and Career-Related Programme Students where the students were able to ask questions specifically in the areas of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics.
It was a wonderful experience for all!
