Lieutenant Colonel Thurman, Director

Lieutenant Colonel, Eugene Thurman retired from the US Army after 23 years of active duty service. He served the Army as a Medical Platoon Leader, Executive Officer, Environmental Engineer, Environmental Scientist, Industrial Hygienist, Director of Agricultural and Natural Resources, and as the 61st Medical Detachment Commander. His military education includes Combined Arms Service and Staff School, Airborne School, Air Assault School, US Army Combat Readiness Center Safety Course, Industrial Hygiene Course, Command General and Staff College, Fundamentals of System Acquisition Management, and the Army Medical Department Basic and Advance Courses.

Lieutenant Colonel Thurman resides in Huntsville, AL with his wife, Daphne Francine Morris-Thurman. They have three wonderful children daughters Sierra and Alishia and son Eugene.

Lieutenant Colonel Thurman has served at every level of the Department of the Army including command, policy development, weapon system research, development, testing, and war fighter combat support. His awards include Legion of Merit, Meritorious Service Medal (05), Humanitarian Service Medal (1), Military Outstanding Volunteer Service Medal (1), Army Service Ribbon (1), National Defense Service Medal (2), Southwest Asia Service Medal, Saudi-Kuwait Liberation Medal (3), Kuwait-Kuwait Liberation Medal (1), Global War On Terrorism Award (1), Army Commendation Medal (05), Army Achievement Medal (1), Joint Meritorious Unit Award (1), Valorous Unit Award (1), and Army Superior Unit Award(1).

Lieutenant Colonel Thurman served as an Adjunct professor for the US Army Combat Readiness Center and School for students pursuing a bachelor or master degree from Texas A&M University. He currently works as the Director of Military Science at Columbia High School.
