Mock Elections

Seniors at Columbia High School got an authentic lesson on civic responsibility by participating in a Mock Election sponsored by the Alabama League of Women Voters.

Not only did students get to cast their ballot as they would in a real election using the real equipment you find in polling stations, students got to work the polls as a poll worker and actually register to vote if they were at least 17 years old and their 18th birthday would occur before the next Election Day.

Students got a chance to vote on three mock proposals that dealt with resolutions to lower the voting age and change selective service to include females to name a couple of the proposals on the ballot. All four proposals passed according to the voice of our senior class.
