W. Dean Sanders

Coach Sanders teaches Drivers Education and is the varsity Football Defensive coordinator. He was born in Huntsville and graduated from S.R. Butler High in 1980, where he made the Huntsville All City Football team. He continued his football career at the University of North Alabama, made the Gulf South All conference team three of his five years, and was picked up as a free agent in 1985 with the New England Patriots. He started his football coaching career at Lee High School in Huntsville 1990 and moved to S.R. Butler High in 1992, where he coached football for twenty years, including nine years as head coach. He also coached girls’ softball and golf for short periods of time. In 2012 Sanders went to Huntsville High where he was Head Freshman Football coach, until he transferred to Columbia High School.
Coach Sanders was married in 1988 to Rebecca and they have two sons, Benjamin and Jonathan. In his spare time he enjoys the outdoors and woodworking. Coach Sanders has enjoyed working with the staff and students at Columbia High School since 2014.
