3rd Grade Fossil Finds
Earthscope came to Goldsmith-Schiffman Elementary to introduce fossils to our 3rd graders. They had a great time being paleontologists for a day.
They uncovered our planet's rich geologic history by:
- locating and identifying fossils in a local fossil bed
- interpreting the geologic time scale using fossil samples
- producing fossil replicas
The student paleontologists also worked to determine and distinguish types of fossils and collect fossils on a Land Trust nature trail, distinguish between an omnivore, herbivore, or carnivore by comparing animal skulls, describe how fossils provide evidence of prehistoric plant life, and examine tree rings to discover how the environment influences tree growth (traits).
