First Grade Science

First grade has been having fun with science this Fall! After learning about the life cycle of a pumpkin, they took an exciting field trip to Tate Farms. They got to learn about how pumpkins grow and what other crops can be grown in this part of Alabama. Finally, they got to pick a pumpkin still growing on the vine to take home. It was a fantastic field trip full of fun and learning!

First grade has also been learning about the weather this Fall, and they were fortunate to have a visitor, meteorologist Grace Anello, from WAAY 31. While reading a story, she taught them all about tornados, rain, hurricanes, and snow. She brought the Storm Tracker van and gave students the chance to look inside. They got to see what the van does and learn how it is used. WAAY 31 published a news article about the visit, and the students were given storm tracker bag with a book about weather. The students loved having a meteorologist visit the school.
