No Place for Hate
No Place for Hate® (NP4H) is an initiative of the Anti-Defamation League offered free to schools. For many years now HCS and GSES have worked to achieve our NP4H designation. The GSES student council serves as the advisory committee for our school.
The initiative is designed to rally the entire school around the goal of creating a welcoming community committed to stopping all forms of bias and bullying. No Place For Hate® provides a unique framework to incorporate new and existing programs with one consistent message. No Place For Hate® can help your school foster a culture of respect and create a safe, bully-free learning environment for students at all grade levels.
The schools that benefit most from this program make it visible and incorporate its message of respect into the fabric of daily school life and school culture. No Place for Hate® becomes, as one teacher describes, “The way we do things here- Respectfully."
In the months of December, January, and February, the students of GSES will discuss the "The No Place For Hate Promise". All students will learn at GSES that we expect students to follow the 4R's- Respect, Responsibility, Resourcefulness, and Ready, and we expect all students to follow the guidelines of the NP4H promise.
This year students completed 3 activities to help us earn our designation. In the fall of 2020 GSES celebrated "Sail Week" for the first time. This week helps us learn that we need to foster a community of safety and leadership. Bullying prevention and coping skills were the focus. Students also learned about Empathy and "Walking in someone's shoes." Our last lesson was about learning to respect culture and diversity. Students were even able to experience another culture in our world.
