I was inspired by my high school Commercial Art teacher to pursue Art Education as a career. Being the first in my family to even graduate high school, it was my Art teacher who encouraged me to consider college as an option, and took our class to visit colleges for portfolio reviews--resulting in Art scholarships. This turn of events opened a lot of unanticipated doors, enriching my life in ways I couldn't have imagined. I earned my BFA with Teaching Certification from Eastern Michigan University, then joined the Peace Corps for my first job as an Art Teacher in a very remote village on the Okavango Delta in Botswana. I learned a great deal from my students in Seronga and continue to learn everywhere I go. I am pleased to have settled here in Madison County with my husband, daughter, chickens, turkeys, ducks, and Nubian goats.
