Hello HCES families,
I hope you've had a chance to read the new information from the district that we will begin following starting Monday, August 23rd. I have added the information below for your reference. The link for the Covid dashboard is below as well. I also want to thank all of you for how you have supported our school, myself, and our teachers. This is an unprecedented time, difficult to manage, difficult to handle, but we are all doing the best we can. I am so very thankful for our school family and I know I say this often, but I truly mean this from my heart. We are all here for our children and want the very best for them.
Several parents have asked if they can choose to keep their child home if they have been exposed to someone but are showing no symptoms and the answer is yes. I'm sure there will be some new learning with these new procedures starting Monday, so please be patient as we problem solve in order to keep everyone healthy. The details below can help explain how we will operate beginning Monday. I am so appreciative of our nurses for their support and guidance over the past year and a half.
In an effort to keep our students and teachers healthy and safe, we have postponed the PTA Open House to late September. We will however, still have a PTA general meeting via zoom. PTA will send out the information and link soon.
We appreciate your patience as we continue to work to get our students logged in to their devices and get Blackboard working correctly. We currently have about 20 students with login issues either due to Powerschools or Clever. We are troubleshooting daily. We plan to begin our STAR testing this week. We will test STAR Early Literacy for the younger grades, STAR Reading for those who are reading, and STAR Math.
Please continue to alert your child's teacher if your child or someone in your home is positive for COVID. Masking is required while on campus. If you or a member of your family are positive, we ask that you do not enter our building to pick up your children or their materials. Please call us if you need us to walk your children out to you. If you are positive and in quarantine, please send someone else to the school to pick up needed materials for your children. We are happy to work with you, please call us at 256-428-7180.
The specific arrival and dismissal procedures below to ensure we have a smooth arrival and dismissal. Our main priority is the safety of our students and getting the car line moving.
Please ensure your child's teacher knows how they will go home each and every day. If you tell them they are a bus rider, your child's teacher must know which bus they are to ride. Please share with your child's teacher. If you are a car rider, please make a sign with your child's name, grade, and teacher's name to place in the front dash of the car when you come for dismissal pick up. This will help us to call their name throughout the line and expedite the car rider line.

The state has shared that our school menus may be a little different due to the supply chain shortage and staffing shortages experienced around the state. Please know there could be menu changes due to the delays in shipments and order changes. We will also postpone our VIP Luncheon to a later date in the spring.
