Hawk News from The Principal 8/9

Hello HCES families,

Thank you all for such a great beginning of school! We are looking forward to our first full week and hope you will make plans to join us for our PTA Back to School Bash on August 13th from 5:00 - 7:00 pm.

Please read the specific arrival and dismissal procedures below to ensure we have a smooth arrival and dismissal. We are working hard to get afternoon dismissal completed by 3:00 p.m. I have recorded our Orientation information that was shared at Newcomer's orientation so you can click on the link below to watch the video.

Please ensure your child's teacher knows how they will go home each and every day. If you tell them they are a bus riders, your child's teacher must know which bus they are to ride. Please share with your child's teacher. If you are a car rider, please make a sign with your child's name, grade, and teacher's name to place in the front dash of the car when you come for dismissal pick up. (I have added an example picture below.)This will help us to call their name and expedite the car rider line.

If your child is going to afterschool tutoring, you should have received an email this afternoon from Mrs. Smotherman for confirmation. If you have not registered yet, you can click the link below to do so.

If your child is a walker, we must have a signed walker agreement on file.

Our district has received new guidance for COVID procedures and was shared today. Masking is required while on campus. I am unable to approve any religious exemptions and the medical exemptions may take a while to be approved. Until that time, masks are required for all inside our buildings. I understand this is not what any of us wanted for our children, however, our school faculty and staff have a job to do and we are working hard to make this school year the best ever. At this time, I need us to support each other and remember the affirmations that our students and staff recite daily, "I am kind. I am a problem solver. I can do hard things." We all want the best for our students each and every day. You all did a fabulous job last year and I know everyone will work together for the good of our children this year as well.

Please continue to alert your child's teacher if your child or someone in your home is positive for COVID.

We are still working through the issues with Powerschools and Blackboard (our communication system). Once we learn how to share with parents, you will receive your log-in information.

Afterschool Tutoring is full for some of our grades at this time. Mrs. Smotherman is our site facilitator and you can email her with any questions about Afterschool Tutoring.

I am very excited to announce that we will be working with Spoiled Rotten Photography this year! Spoiled Rotten Photography will provide fall and spring pictures, pictures for the yearbook, as well as other packages where parents can mix and match poses. We will still have class pictures in the spring and they will offer sessions for elective Christmas portraits. Their prices are very affordable and I think our parents will be pleased with this change. We will still provide parent information for the pictures (just as we have for Lifetouch) and if you prefer not to have school pictures with us, parents will need to "opt-out". We will have more information during our orientation times. Fall pictures are scheduled for August 17th and 18th. More detailed information will be sent home soon.

During a recent HCS Board Meeting, Hampton Cove Schools were approved for three learning cottages that will be housed by the pavilion (where previous learning cottages were housed several years ago). The learning cottages are still in the process of being connected, so once they are ready, I will share their purpose.

Your child will also receive a "Wednesday Folder" from HCES. Our teachers will send home any information, grade papers, flyers, etc. on Wednesday, so please make a habit of checking their backpacks on Wednesdays.

Thank you all for your support,

Ms. Spivey
