Parent Information Letter 2/8

Hello HCES family,

Progress reports are being sent home today with our traditional students along with their STAR Reading and Math parent reports. HVA parents should have received this information as well.

I had to send the COVID letter out today to our school family. We made it through the entire month of January without having to send home this letter, so we are very proud of this. Please remember to keep your child(ren) home if they are showing COVID symptoms and email your child's teacher and admin as well. We appreciate our parents for being so diligent with COVID and we will continue to remind our parents of our procedures and processes. Also, please remind your children the importance of wearing their masks daily while they are at school.

We do ask for your help to check their mask and ensure it does fit properly (over the nose and mouth). Also, please remember to send your child to school with a mask. We continue to show low COVID numbers across our school so far and I have to attribute this to our teamwork and the efforts of our staff and parents. Thank you for supporting our procedures. We work to ensure the safety and health of our students daily.

Some parents have reached out to your child's teacher to inquire about exchanging Valentines. Due to Covid, we are not able to allow children to exchange Valentines. We will follow the same protocol for the Valentine's Day parties as we did for our Winter Holiday parties. Our students will complete a craft activity and have a treat that the teacher provides for them. Our PTA room parents worked well with our teachers to coordinate in December, so we will follow the same procedures for Valentine's Day. Again, this is in an effort to keep our students and staff safe.

Please understand we are trying to limit interactions and following the district guidelines.

Each year, our STEAM night, formerly Math and Science night, has been our highest attended family event at HCES. With the year we have had, we didn't want our students to miss out, so on Wednesday, Feb. 10th, I will be making an announcement and sending out information about our STEAM week activities! All activities will be virtual this year with some exciting things planned for all of our students and families! We will have our kick-off event on Friday, Feb. 19 and live virtual events on February 22nd-26th! We are so excited and can't wait to share our STEAM events!!!

Stay tuned!! :)

Please ask your child what level they are working on in Lexia. We are super excited to have Lexia, an adaptive, online reading program, that assists students in mastering reading skills. We are encouraging students to complete their weekly minutes goal in Lexia. Ask your child about Lexia and see what they can tell you. Teachers have a dashboard to view student progress throughout the year.

We changed the date of our GLOW day in PE to 2/26/21. On February 26, we will have a fun "Glow Day" during your child's PE time. We will have PE in the cafeteria with black lights and low lights so their shirts will glow. Please allow your child to wear a white shirt or you can purchase a Glow shirt through the PTA spirit wear link. We will have the HVA students join during their grade levels PE time.

Please contact your child's teacher and include admin if you have questions about any COVID exposure or positive diagnosis. We appreciate your support.

Sincerely,

Ms. Spivey
