Sharon Lakin

Hello, my name is Sharon Lakin and I am a kindergarten teacher at Hampton Cove Elementary School. I am originally from New York. I have eighteen years of teaching experience. I taught overseas for the Department of Defense in Puerto Rico, Italy (where our fifteen year old son was born) and Japan as well as Maryland before getting my job at Huntsville City Schools. My husband retired from the U. S. Navy after 24 years and we retired to the Huntsville area. This is my eighth year teaching kindergarten at Hampton Cove Elementary School. I look forward to a wonderful year of learning and working with both you and your child!

I believe that all students can learn and succeed. Each student is a unique individual with varying characteristics, interests, and needs. They bring with them a wealth of experience, which they draw upon, in learning to interact with their environment. It is my responsibility as a teacher to provide my students with learning experiences that meet their interests and developmental needs. At the same time, it is my responsibility to help your child develop a positive understanding of self and other. With that understanding in mind, I will treat each child with respect, empowering them to discover their own talents and achieve at a high level. Kindergarten is a big transitional year for your child. There will be many activities going on in our classroom and I would love for you to be as involved in them as you can be.

I have been married for nearly 20 years to my wonderful husband and we have an amazing 15 year old son. I enjoy spending time with my family, traveling, exercising, and reading.
