This Week at HCMS (Aug 26)
Moving into our fourth week of school we will shift our morning advisory lessons from rules and procedures to focusing on social emotional learning. This week our focus will be on stress and stress management. The HCMS teachers are working through a book study by the title Executive Function “Dysfunction”: Strategies for Educators and Parents. Using a strategy called “Stress Detective”, students will use questions to help guide what might be causing them stress and some ways to relieve stress. I encourage you to talk with your child about these advisory lessons.
We look forward to seeing you all at our Bulls N BBQ event on Thursday night at 5:00pm. Our PTA will have a general meeting in the cafeteria at 6:15 and then you will have a chance to visit each of your child’s teachers by walking their daily schedule. Beginning at 6:30 you will go to Advisory to collect a schedule and learn more about the purpose of the advisory program. Then we will run a modified bell schedule for you to move from class to class and learn more about the classes your child is taking this year. Teachers will have a brief presentation to share information. If you would like to schedule a conference to get more individualized communication about how your child is performing, please don’t hesitate to leave your contact information with the teacher.
Be sure to mark your calendar for the following week, September 6 at 8:15 for Coffee and Conversations in the library. I’ll be sharing some highlights about our school and what we can do to make sure your child has a successful year in middle school.
Thank you for all you do to support our school and community. I’m looking forward to another great week of leading and learning!
