HCS Student Achieves Perfect Score on ACT
Megan Cooper is a very diligent 12th grade student at New Century Technology High School, and has already earned honors as a 2018 National Merit Scholarship Semifinalist. Megan was with a friend when she decided to log in to her ACT account to check her scores, and saw that it was a thirty-six. Cooper’s friend looked at her and said, “Dude, you made a thirty-six!” It took Megan a few moments to realize the significance of what she was seeing - that she had made a perfect score. “I called my mom at work to tell her, and she was very excited,” Cooper said, adding that “she knew something was up because I never call her at work.”
A perfect ACT score is quite rare, with only a small number of students able to achieve a thirty-six on the test. Just last year, over two million students took the ACT and only 2,760 were able to earn a perfect score. The next-highest score of thirty-five was earned by approximately 12,000 students.
New Century Principal Sheila Roby said, “We are very proud of Megan and her achievements. This latest accomplishment speaks to her hard work, intelligence, and devotion to her studies.” Cooper has taken the ACT test more than once, and hopes that getting a thirty-six could earn her a spot at Harvard or Stanford. She has already been accepted to UAH as well as Auburn, and has her eye on pursuing a possible career in Aerospace Engineering.
