Free Drum Lessons:

Huntsville Drum Line offers drum lessons at Highlands on Wednesdays. These will begin on August 29th. Please ask for an application, if your child is interested.

R.E.A.C.H. Tutoring:

We are excited to host REACH tutoring again this year. This is offered in partnership with Oakwood University. More information will come home soon.

Car Line Update:

We really appreciate the support and patience that you have given us as we worked to improve our car rider line last week. We are happy to report that we improved our time by 30 minutes! You can expect the line to be significantly decreased by around 3:15pm. If you are in need of a car number, please let the front office know.

General Reminders:

  • School begins at 8:00am. If you arrive after 8:00am, please come into the office with your child to sign in.
  • Please be sure that you arrive before 3:30pm to pick up your student.
  • You may call the front office to set up a conference with a teacher or administrator at any time.

Computer Usage Fees:

If you have a student in grades 3-6, the computer usage fee for the new Chromebook is due at this time. You may send in or stop by with cash or a check anytime this month. The fee is a one-time fee and will be used to cover unintentional damages to the device. Thank you to everyone who already paid this fee.

Curriculum Night is August 30th @6:00pm. Please join us to find out more about the great learning opportunities that are going on at Highlands Elementary!

Morning tutoring is available from 6:50am each morning! Teachers and security are available to supervise students at this time.

Parent Compacts:

Each year we distribute parent compacts. Please be on the lookout for this year’s compact to come home in the coming weeks. We will have copies in English and Spanish. When you receive them, please go over it closely, sign, and return it as soon as possible. These are an essential part of our federal monitoring.

Second Mile Parent Parties:

We will have Second Mile Parent Parties again this year. Each month, you are invited to join Ms. Toney and the Second Mile staff to celebrate our parents. The topic of discussion is always relevant and interesting. Refreshments and door prizes are available. It is a also a great way to meet other Highlands parents. The schedule for parent parties will be shared later this week.

Parent Teacher Association (PTA):

We would like to activate our PTA for the 2018-19 school year. As we prepare to do so, here is some general information about the function of PTAs.

  • PTAs is a group that works to support the school. This can be through volunteering, sponsoring activities, or celebrating our students and/or teachers.
  • Each PTA sets and collects their dues yearly and uses those funds to support the school.
  • The PTA works closely with administration to make the school a better place to learn.
  • PTAs have flexibility in the ways that they support the needs of the school.

PTAs need officers to serve as a decision-makers for the group

Parent Advisory Committee:

Mrs. Hall would like to form a Parent Advisory Committee this year. This group would be called upon to meet once each nine weeks to discuss school events, needs, goals, and progress. If anyone is interested in serving on our Parent Advisory Committee this year, please call the front office 428-7200, send an email to , or let a member of the leadership team know.

Volunteer Opportunities:

We always have volunteer opportunities for parents to support our school. We especially need help in the library right now. If you can spare an hour to volunteer, please email or We would love to have your support!
