January Newsletter

A Message from Mrs. Hall

Welcome back! We hope that you all enjoyed a happy and healthy break! We have another busy semester ahead of us. We are half way through the school year already and still have so much to do! In the coming weeks, we will be conducting STAR testing (K-6), Scantron Progress Monitoring (3-6), and DIBELS (K-2). Please encourage your student(s) to do his/her best so that we can accurately measure his/her growth.

Car Line

We would like to thank all of the parents who continue to use their car rider numbers each day at pick-up. It makes the process of keeping your child warm and safe during dismissal so much easier! If you are new to our school or have lost your numbers, please let the front office know so that we can give you another set. Thank you!

Upcoming Fundraiser

We appreciate your participation in the upcoming fundraiser. We are working to raise money to enhance and support our Hawk Hour enrichment activities. As many of you know, Hawk Hour has been a great success so far this year. Our students look forward to having the chance to learn a craft, skill, or participate in an activity that they might otherwise not get a chance to experience. Please reach out if you have questions relating to this optional fundraising activity. The fundraiser will begin on January 25th.

Parent Conferences

We encourage you to reach out and set up a conference with your child’s teacher at any time. You may contact them directly or speak to Mrs. Bowman in the front office to schedule one. An administrator is more than happy to attend as well. Let us know if you would like for Mr. Dixon or myself to be a part of the meeting.

Please help us reach our attendance and tardy goals this school year. We need an average daily attendance for the school year to be greater than or equal to 95% and our tardy rate to remain below 5%. You can help us meet these goals by making sure that your child comes to school on time each day. We appreciate your efforts in this area!

Parent Volunteers

If you would like to volunteer at Highlands Elementary, please email me at or give me a call at (256) 428-7200. You can leave a message in the front office as well. We would love to have your help and support!
