Huntsville High School ninth grade students are normally about fourteen years old when they come to our campus. However, the Huntsville High community would like to begin reaching out to the young people of Huntsville a lot earlier than age fourteen. In fact, we want to give all babies born in Huntsville Hospital a gift on their BIRTH day.
Research shows that babies and children who read with their parents and caretakers build language skills from the first days, months, and years of life. As the future educators and fellow students of these Huntsville babies, we want to encourage the development of their language skills. And so, we’ve launched this new initiative, the Baby’s First Book Initiative.
Our goal is to raise $8,000 by April 10, 2018, with every penny of the proceeds going toward the purchase of books. All interested parties can donate through a link at the HCS volunteer website or mail checks (made payable to Huntsville High School) directly to the school at 2304 Billie Watkins Road Huntsville AL 35801. Donor levels include Bronze ($50-100), Silver ($101-250), Gold ($251-500), and Diamond ($750-1,000). All donors will be recognized in the Ms. Huntsville High School pageant program. The pageant is scheduled for Tuesday, April 10, 2018, at 6:00 p.m., in the HHS Auditorium.
We are eager to join the Huntsville High community with the larger Huntsville community as we welcome our newest citizen-students with the gift of reading.
