Black History Parade and Assembly
Black History Kick-Off
On Februrary 3rd Dawson Elementary School hosted their black history kick-off celebration. It started with a parade of our pre-K through second graders dressed as famous African-Americans. It was followed by an assembly with 2nd through 6th graders attending.
Our guest speaker was the pastor of St. Bartley Primitive Baptist Church, Reverend Jaymes R. Mooney. His message was on the history of the St. Bartley Primitive Baptist Church. The church is the oldest African-American church in Alabama. It is called the "Mother Church". It is 200 years old this year. He also spoke to the students about their role as future leaders.
Pastor Mooney was accomompanied by our guest soloist, Rodney Milton. He performed "Swing Low" and "Down By the River" just to name a few songs.
The school found the assembly very inspirational and informative. Many thanks to Pastor Mooney, Rodney Milton and all St. Bartley supporters.
