Heart-warming, Patriotic Veteran's Day Program
Jones Valley School was a sea of red, white and blue as guests entered the building this morning for our Veteran's Day Program. A few hundred students had made American flags in Art Class and posted along the steps leading up to the Cafeteria for our Program.
As soon as the Boys Scouts entered the room caring the American Flag and the crowd repeated the Pledge to the American Flag, all in attendance were anxious to participate and observe this year's Program planned by Mrs. Jamie Davis, our Art and Music teacher. The 6th Grade Choir beautifully sang the National Anthem that was followed by a heart tugging video an older Veteran explaining to his grandsons the meaning of Sacrifice and Service to the United States Military.
Our guest speaker was Symantha Villamil, Jones Valley's Security Guard affectionately known at Coach V., who served in the Army. She sincerely shared her journey and the educational rewards that the Military provided. The applause she recieved at the end of her talk was the most enthusiastic of the day.
Teacher Stacey Besherse produced an ABC video of students explaining the numerous characteristics of those who serve in the Armed Forces. Fifth graders excited the crowd with a jaunty hip-hop chanty cadence.
The program ended with all students singing America the Beautiful and waving red and white paper plates during parts of the song. The beautiful sway of plates looked like a sea of flags across the cafeteria.
The multiple times that students thanked our Veterans in attendance was overwhelming. Afterwards Veterans were invited to the Library for snacks. Thanks to Mrs.Davis, Mrs. Besherse and the students who made this a most touching and Patriotic Program.
