Jones Valley Hosts First Family Night for Math and Literacy
Tuesday, October 29, the PTA organized and directed the first annual Math and Literacy event. Parents and students were greeted at the entrance by the newly elected Student Council Officers. Pizza and Slushies were served to early arrivals in the cafeteria. Parents were directed to various locations where a panel of Teachers and Staff addressed issues such as Grading Policy and Academic Standards in the areas of Math and Reading. While Parents were attending their seminars, students were divided by grade and led to the Gym or the Library.
In the Library Mrs. Besherse read Where the Wild Things Are by Maruice Sendak. After the story was over, students created their own 'Wild Thing' using paper bags, feathers, fake jewels, ribbons and markers. In the Gym, The Math Learning Center, Mathnasium, led students in games associated with Math concepts. By the end of the evening parents and students expressed that the first annual Math and Literacy Night was a huge success!
