Dance Magnet
In the Dance Magnet program, students learn basic technique in ballet, jazz, and contemporary dance. They work to improve their technique and to build strength balance, endurance, and poise. Students are introduced to the principles of choreography and learn to choreograph production pieces. They develop and refine their performance skills and learn the basics of costume, make-up, and staging. Additionally, students have opportunities to study with outstanding guest teachers and chorographers. These have included local artists as well as professionals from Giordano Dance Chicago. In recent years, several students have been selected to receive scholarships for summer workshops with Giordano in Chicago. Twice each year, the magnet students present a major dance production for the public. They also have several other performance opportunities in the area throughout the year. The Dance Magnet program fosters cooperative and individual effort, encourages determination, and inspires belief in oneself.
