Digging Deeper into Social and Emotional Learning
On August 18, 2021, Anthony J Buckner, who represents Alabama State Department of Education office of School Improvement, shared insights about the importance of building positive relationships in the classroom and helping students manage their emotions. According to research, SEL is a part of education and human development. Mr. Buckner discussed ways teachers can implement the Equitable Classroom Observation Checklist which reflects culturally responsive teaching through examples. In fact, this tool can be demonstrated as a self-reflection, and it helps teachers become knowledgeable of student's behavior. Lastly, SEL can assist students think critically and challenge them to build their self-esteem.
