Astronaut Visits McDonnell
Astronaut, Danny Olivas visited McDonnell Elementary 3rd - 5th grade students Wednesday, October 12, 2016. Dr. Olivas is the author of the book, Endeavour's Long Journey, which a copy was provided for every student. McDonnell has a large Hispanic population, so the book was offered in both English and Spanish to the students. Dr. Olivas is a retired NASA astronaut and has traveled more than 11.6 million miles in space and has been on two Space Shuttle missions. Not only has he adventured into space, but he also spent tie living at the bottom of the ocean in an underwater habitat, has survived the frozen Arctic and has hiked the mountains of Wyoming. Dr. Olivas and his wife now reside in Los Angeles and enjoys sharing his adventure stories with school children. McDonnell is proud to have had the opportunity for the students to meet, greet and listen to a published author and astronaut.
