Ending of the Most Unusual School Year
As this very unusual school year draws to a close, I would like to take a moment to share a few thoughts and sentiments. No one imagined that this school year would be such a roller coaster, going from traditional to remote learning from regular 5 day a week schedule to scattered start. Teachers, students, and parents would become proficient in using zoom to hold instruction, parent/teacher conferences and IEP meetings. Teachers and students were excited to come back to the building for face-to-face instruction even with all the COVID mandates. We wore our masks, social distanced, took our temperatures, taught behind our shields, and sanitized, sanitized, and sanitized, but we were so excited to see our student’s happy smiles behind the masks. Through all the challenges and continuous changes, we came together and encouraged each other as a family to educate our students.
We want to thank you for your kindness, grace, and cooperation as our faculty and staff members worked to provide quality learning experiences for our students and to support their efforts to learn online from home. We have been amazed by the flexibility, tenacity, and creativity that our students have shown as they have navigated this new and different way of accessing their education. They are resilient and we know that they will come through this difficult time having learned important lessons about themselves as learners and as young adults.
I am extremely fortunate to be part of such an amazing, passionate, and devoted team of teachers, staff, students, and families at McDonnell Elementary. We overcame all the difficulties imposed by our current situation and continued to focus on the success of our students, I am forever humbled and grateful for the sacrifices and efforts you have all put forth. Thank you. We wish you a safe and healthy summer and look forward to seeing our students again in the fall.
