Teaching Students to Save
It is never too early to learn the value of saving your money. As part of The American Bankers Association Foundation's national "Teach Children to Save" financial education campaign students at McDonnell Elementary were given the opportunity to join in a live Zoom meeting. On Monday, April 19, 2021 and Tuesday, April 20, 2021, volunteers from Iberiabank took time to speak to over 250 students at McDonnell Elementary via Zoom about the importance of saving money. Students were given information about opening up thier own savings accounts under a custodial account. In addition to this, students learned how much it costs to live on their own and the importance of saving now for your future. Volunteers from our school and community also spoke to the students about thier personal experiences with saving and trying to save as a child. Students were given a certificate of completion after the presentation and teachers were given a tote bag for participating and encouraging students to save.
