Dr Collins McNair Family Communication
Ronald McNair Family,
In anticipation of the new school year, we have prepared the following plan of action. Take time to ensure you read it in its entirety, so that you can remain abreast of instructional expectations and available resources to you. Please remain optimistic as we continue with this learning platform. We are all in this together, McNair Strong. – Dr. Carlita Collins
Beginning Monday, August 17, 2020 – We will follow a seven (7) period schedule. If you have not already received a schedule, a copy of your child’s/children’s schedule(s) will be accessible in I-NOW beginning Monday, August 17, 2020.
Schoology will be the students learning platform. Students will need to access their Schoology page frequently to obtain their instructional resources. Teachers will provide instruction and assignments via Schoology.
If you have not registered your child/children, please log into PowerSchool to complete this task as soon as possible. You can access PowerSchool via the Huntsville City Schools website. Once on the site, scroll down to the ENROLLMENT tab and follow the prompts to register your child/children.

Attendance and How it will be Handled
Student attendance will be recorded based upon students’ sign-in to Schoology prior to 10:00 am each day. If for some reason students are not able to sign-in to their Schoology accounts by 10:00 am, please call Ronald McNair at 256-428-7660 to notify the front office staff that your student is present and working via paper assignment or projects by 10 am. Please note, that McNair will have record of those students who have been provided paper assignments and those who should be logging into Schoology each day.
Teachers will post their plan for instruction to Schoology. Please ensure your student checks his/her Schoology page regularly, as this will be their primary source of information. If your child cannot access the instruction via computer, paper assignments for pick up will be available by appointment only.
Starting Monday, August 17, 2020, grab and go lunches for HCS students will be available at all HCS schools. Ronald McNair students will pick up their meals at Jemison High School outside of the competition gym area. The student(s) must remain in their car in order to receive their meals. Please do not exit your vehicle on campus.
Communication – Schoology and Email
The teachers will communicate to you and your child using the Schoology and email platforms. It is important that your child has the capability to access their communications using their school issued Chromebooks. You may find teachers’ email addresses on the school’s website, as posted above. I will communicate with you at least once per week with any new updates or other relevant information via SchoolCast. If any of your phone numbers or emails have changed and need updating in I- NOW, please notify the front office staff at 256-428-7660.
If your child has a broken laptop, broken charger, and/or missing charger, please contact Julee Lovelace at email@example.com or 256-428-7660.
Each HCS school will have curbside WiFi hot spots, beginning Monday, August 17, 2020. If your child needs to download or upload anything, you may drive to an HCS site from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm each day, and do it from your car. The WiFi hot spot cords will extend approximately 300 yards (the length of three football fields) from the school building. Please do not exit your vehicle on campus.
Football and volleyball teams are now allowed to practice for the fall season. Guidelines provided by HCS district staff aligned with AHSAA regulations were set for the coaches to follow regarding proper safeguarding against the COVID-19 virus. Furthermore, students must have a physical before entering any practice activity, and athletes should have their own water bottles. Coaches have been advised to make parental contact pertaining to your child’s participation regarding any questions you may have. At present, teams are allowed to practice during the day. Beginning Monday, August 17, 2020, practices will begin no sooner than 3:45 p.m. each day.
