2020-2021 Parent Letter from the Principal
Hello Monte Sano Families,
We are excited to welcome you to the 2020-2021 school year. Also, we are hopeful that your family is staying healthy and safe. As you are aware, the beginning of school year will look very different in Huntsville City Schools, as we will begin the first nine weeks with remote learning. This letter will provide you with important information for the beginning of the school year. Please feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns that you may have. It is our goal to make this transition as efficient as possible for all students.
Welcome to Monte Sano
Mrs. Lindsay Schliesman will be joining Monte Sano as our new fifth grade teacher. Mr. Gary Webb will be teaching sixth grade math for the 2020-21 school year.
Huntsville City Schools is providing all K-12 students with a device to access Schoology and other academic platforms. Kindergarten will be receiving IPads until their computers arrive. At this time, they are on backorder. There is a device fee of $35.00 for grades 1-2 only. Please bring this fee in the form of cash or check at the assigned time to pick up your device. Device pickup for grades 4-6 is for new students only. If you have requested that a family member picks up your device, they must have a signed letter stating the students name and grade from the parent and a pictured ID. Devices must be picked up at the scheduled time.
Device Distribution Schedule:
- Thursday, August 13th
- 8:45-9:30 Kindergarten
- 9:30-10:15 1st Grade
- 10:15-11:00 2nd Grade
- 11:00-11:45 3rd Grade and new students in grades 4, 5, and 6
Instruction will take place daily for students. Your child’s classroom teacher will send a schedule so you are aware of the times that live instruction will take place, as well as when students will take part in specials (art, music, band, choir, ETA, counseling, library, etc). Students will receive daily instruction in reading/language arts, mathematics, science, social studies, and physical education. It is imperative that students login each day to receive the live instruction. This is also how attendance with be taken. Teachers will also record and post their whole group lessons for students to access later, if necessary. Small group instruction will not be posted, and students must attend the live lessons to receive this instruction. The teachers will let you know when assignments are due. It is important that assignments are turned in on time, as this is where grades will be taken from. Students will begin receiving grades the third week of instruction. (Week of August 31st) Please let your classroom teacher know if you do not have internet at home.
